Casa Miramar

Casa Miramar is located in Playa Flamingo which is in the Guanacaste Province in northwest Costa Rica on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. We are in the Central time zone, but because Costa Rica does not recognize daylight savings time, it is effectively on Mountain time during the summer months but Central standard time during the winter months.

The closest airport to Playa Flamingo is Liberia International Airport (LIR) (pictured at left), and it is conveniently served with reasonable fares by Delta (from Atlanta), American (from Miami), and Continental (from Houston).

From Liberia. The drive to Casa Miramar from Liberia is approximately 45 minutes. You should rent a car at Liberia International Airport. Most major car rental agencies serve Liberia, and they are located on the main road to Flamingo just outside the airport property. A van from the rental agency will meet your flight. Any car rental agency can provide you a good map and directions to Flamingo.

The following are general directions to Casa Miramar: When you leave the airport area, you should travel west on Highway 21 towards the beach. You will pass through the communities of Guardia, Comunidad, Filadelfia and Belen. You will turn right towards Flamingo just as you leave Belen, and will pass through Portegolpe and Huacas on your way to Flamingo. There is a good road, and there are many signs to guide you. Do not take Highway 21 South toward Santa Cruz at Belen, and do not turn south toward Tamarindo at Huacas. Once you arrive in Flamingo, you should drive past the Marina (which will be on your right) and continue on toward the beach. Do not take the road uphill to your right in Flamingo, but proceed on past Marie's Restaurant (on your right) to the Century 21 Office on the right side of the road just before you reach the main beach. There, Jorge will give you your keys and directions (or an escort) to Casa Miramar.

From San Jose. Most major airlines serve San Jose (which is in the central part of the country) from numerous major cities in the U.S. and other countries. From San Jose there are two ways to reach Casa Miramar:

1. Flying: You can take a short 45 minute flight from San Jose
International Airport (SJO) to Tamarindo Airport on either Sansa
Airlines or NatureAir. From Tamarindo it is a 15-20 minute drive to
Flamingo.

2. Driving: Driving from San Jose International Airport, take the Pan
American Highway 1 to Liberia (this is the same direction as Puntarenas).
Liberia is approximately 150 miles from San Jose and will take you about
4 ½ hours by car. Once in Liberia, turn left toward the airport and follow the directions indicated above from the Liberia International Airport (which is 10 miles west of Liberia).

The new bridge over the Rio Tempisque now provides a somewhat faster alternative. Take Highway 1 from San Jose toward Puntarenas, as above, but turn left on Highway 18 just past the town of La Irma. Then take Highway 21 North toward Santa Cruz and Belen. Turn left at Belen toward Flamingo and follow the directions above.
